United has officially confirmed Ruben Amorim as their new manager, bringing in the talented Portuguese coach to lead the team following Ten Hag’s departure. Ruben will kick things off on November 11. He previously led Sporting CP to league glory and joins United on a contract that runs until June 2027, with an option for another year. His arrival at Old Trafford is perfectly timed for the international break, giving him a chance to prep the squad.

The Red Devils quickly made Amorim their top choice after a tough start to the season, with Ten Hag’s last game ending in a 2-1 loss to West Ham. In their announcement, United called Amorim “one of the most exciting young coaches in European football,” highlighting his success at Sporting, where he won two Primeira Liga titles—one of which ended a 19-year drought for the club.

Bringing Amorim on board wasn’t cheap. United met the £8.3 million release clause set by Sporting and, after some intense negotiations, paid an extra £900,000 to get him to Manchester sooner than expected. Sporting initially wanted to keep him until after their Champions League match against Manchester City, but they eventually agreed to let him go ahead of the international break, allowing Amorim to make his debut as United boss against Ipswich on November 24.

In the meantime, interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will keep things steady, recently leading the Red Devils to a fantastic 5-2 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup. His leadership will help while Amorim adjusts to life in the Premier League.

Known for his tactical skills and unique possession-based style, Amorim is expected to bring his signature back-three formation and versatile attacking play to Old Trafford. Under his guidance, Sporting built a solid defense and a dynamic scoring approach—a formula United hopes he can replicate in Manchester. Everyone will be watching closely as Amorim transitions to English football, especially with United currently sitting 11th in the league, looking to bounce back.

On top of his tactical influence, Amorim might also bring in three key coaching staff from Sporting, though United may need to shell out an extra £4.1 million to secure these talents. Amorim’s name was previously linked with top Premier League clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City, showing just how much value United sees in their new signing.

With Amorim’s appointment kicking off a new chapter, Manchester United fans have plenty of reasons to feel optimistic as the club aims to climb back to the top of English football.
