Barcelona’s financial mess has opened the door for Premier League clubs, like Manchester City and Manchester United, to swoop in for Spanish star Dani Olmo. The midfielder could become a free agent in January after a local court rejected Barcelona’s attempt to re-register him for the second half of the season.
Olmo joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig in a £50 million deal this summer, but La Liga’s strict financial rules only let him be temporarily registered until the end of 2023. With no solution in sight, Premier League giants are keeping a close eye on his situation, with City and United reportedly leading the charge for the Spanish playmaker.
City are particularly interested in the 26-year-old, who shone for Spain during their Euro 2024 success. Olmo’s creative flair and versatility would be a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s squad, especially as City’s midfield depth is becoming a concern while they aim to stay on top in England and Europe.
Olmo’s agent, Andy Bara, was recently spotted in Manchester, sparking rumors about ongoing talks. Bara, who helped City sign Josko Gvardiol for £77 million, has strong ties with the club.
