Liverpool’s much-anticipated Premier League match against Manchester United is all set for this Sunday afternoon, despite a snowy makeover at Anfield.
A final safety check at noon confirmed the stadium is good to go for the 16:30 GMT kick-off, so fans and players can look forward to an exciting game without the wintery hassle.
Sunday started with the North West covered in snow, raising worries about travel and safety. But after careful checks, both Liverpool FC and Manchester United assured everyone that the match would happen safely.
“Today’s game against Manchester United will go ahead as planned,” said Liverpool, with United also confirming that it’s safe for fans to attend.

This good news came even with an amber weather warning for snow and ice across northern England. Earlier, Manchester and Liverpool airports had to close for a bit, and sleet and rain were expected to stick around into the afternoon.
Liverpool fans might remember a similar snowy situation in December when their derby against Everton got postponed due to Storm Darragh. This time, though, the league leaders—five points clear at the top—will take on their old rivals as scheduled. Meanwhile, United is sitting in 14th place, a whopping 23 points behind.
The weather has also caused trouble for lower-tier English football. League Two matches Chesterfield vs Gillingham and Fleetwood vs AFC Wimbledon were both called off this morning. In the Women’s FA Cup, the Nottingham Forest vs Burnley match at the City Ground also got canceled.
Even outside of football, the rough weather made an impact, with horse racing at Plumpton being canceled, but Chepstow’s Sunday meeting is still on.
As the snow blankets the country, one thing is for sure: the heated clash between Liverpool and Manchester United is sure to lift fans’ spirits, no matter how chilly it gets!
