Jurgen Klopp has shared that he wants to come back to Liverpool this season, but he’s a bit nervous about bringing bad luck as the Reds chase another Premier League title.
Since leaving Anfield at the end of last season, Klopp hasn’t been back. He had an amazing nine-year run, bringing home a long-awaited league title, Champions League win, and some domestic cups.
His time away has let new manager Arne Slot take charge, and Liverpool is now 13 points clear at the top of the table, just 10 matches away from winning the biggest prize in English football again.
At a charity event in South Africa, Klopp said he plans to return for the celebrations if his old team makes it. But he’s been hesitant to visit Anfield too soon, worried he might be seen as a bad omen.

“Yes, the plan is to be in Liverpool, but not on the bus,” Klopp said. “I’ll be there with the fans, the ones I saw when we were on the bus. That’s the idea, but we’ll see. I think I’ll be there for the last game. I didn’t want to go earlier because I didn’t want to jinx it. If I’m in the stadium for the first time and they lose, I’ll be thinking, ‘Oh, for f***’s sake.’ So I’ll go when it’s decided.”
Liverpool will face Crystal Palace on the last day of the season, which could be Klopp’s big return to the club he helped transform.
Slot, who has quickly won over the fans, has invited Klopp to games, but the German has been busy elsewhere.
“I invited him to the City and Real home games, but he said he was somewhere else in the world,” Slot shared. “He can come anytime he wants, to the games or even to the training ground. For me, he’s more than welcome. In the first half of the season, he was enjoying life with his wife, and now he has a job to do.”
Klopp has been taking some well-deserved time off since leaving Liverpool, but he took on a new role in January as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull.
For now, though, he’s all about his old club and their title chase. If everything goes well, Klopp will be back at Anfield, celebrating another historic moment—just from the stands this time.
