Mohamed Salah has hinted again that he might leave Liverpool at the end of the season, saying there’s been “no progress” in contract talks as his deal comes to an end.
The 32-year-old Egyptian forward, who’s leading the Premier League with 17 goals this season, is now in the last six months of his big contract. This means Salah can chat with foreign clubs about a pre-contract, which has everyone buzzing about his future.
Even with all this uncertainty, Salah is determined to help Liverpool snag another Premier League title before he potentially leaves. With Arne Slot’s team six points clear at the top and having a game in hand, it looks like a real possibility.
Salah shared that he made a list of goals during a holiday last year, and winning the Premier League with Liverpool was at the top. “The first thing on the list was to win the Premier League with Liverpool,” he told Sky Sports. He added, “We didn’t celebrate the one we won the way we wanted. Plus, since it’s my last year at the club, I want to do something special for the city.”
Salah’s mention of his final year at Anfield adds to his earlier comments about not discussing a contract extension. Back in September, he said, “Nobody has talked to me” about his future. Even after a fantastic game in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham, he said, “We are far away from any progress. So, we just need to wait and see.”

Since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2016, Salah has become a club legend, scoring 231 goals and playing key roles in their Champions League win in 2019 and Premier League title in 2020. However, the quiet celebrations of their pandemic-era title still sting for Salah and his teammates.
“We waited 30 years for that title,” Salah said. “Winning it during the pandemic meant we didn’t get to celebrate it properly. Hopefully, we can do it this year.”
Despite the contract drama, Salah is focused on making his last months at Liverpool unforgettable. “If this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future?” he wondered. “Do you want to look back and say I was worried about the contract? Or do you want to say I had an amazing season? That’s what I’m thinking about.”
Salah isn’t alone in this situation. Other Liverpool stars like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also have uncertain futures, with their contracts ending this summer. Still, club legend Jamie Carragher believes Salah and Van Dijk will stay at Anfield. “I expect it to get sorted with those two players,” Carragher said. “I can’t see a situation where Mo Salah isn’t starting at Liverpool next season.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot also praised Salah after his standout performance against West Ham, saying: “Mo and the word extraordinary go hand in hand. He’s not just a great scorer but also works hard for the team. We hope he keeps delivering these performances.”
As Salah approaches what could be the end of an era at Liverpool, he’s focused on winning trophies and leaving a lasting mark on the club and its fans. Whether his farewell includes another Premier League title is still up in the air, but one thing’s for sure: Salah’s legacy at Anfield is already shining bright.
