Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is dealing with some serious money issues this January because of PSR rules and the club’s limited budget. After spending a whopping £177.6 million in the summer, the Red Devils need to raise some cash before making any more moves in the transfer market.
There are some big names possibly leaving, like Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Casemiro. Meanwhile, Amorim is looking to bring in players to fit his favorite 3-4-3 system. Here’s what might happen at Old Trafford this month.
Marcus Rashford
Once a key player for United, Rashford is now on the transfer list with a £40 million price tag. A permanent deal seems unlikely, so a loan move is more likely. AC Milan is interested, but Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages are a big hurdle. While ambitious Serie A team Como is ready to pay his full salary, Rashford isn’t keen on joining a relegation battle. Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have also shown interest, but moves to MLS or Saudi Arabia are off the table.
Alejandro Garnacho
The Argentine winger hasn’t been getting much playtime under Amorim’s new tactics and is catching Napoli’s eye. They see him as a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is heading to PSG. United doesn’t want to sell, but Garnacho’s future is uncertain, with just one goal and one assist this season.
Antony
The Brazilian winger, who was signed for £86 million from Ajax in 2022, hasn’t made much of an impact. Real Betis is leading the charge for a loan, and Olympiacos is also interested. Antony’s agent says other clubs are keen, but the player is being picky about his next move.
Casemiro
With wages of £375,000-a-week, it’s tough to move the veteran Brazilian midfielder. There’s interest from Saudi Arabia and MLS, but no one has met his financial demands yet. United really wants to cut down their wage bill, but moving one of their top earners is a challenge.
Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof
Both players are close to the end of their contracts, with Eriksen’s deal up this summer. United would take lower offers for either player this month to ease their financial strain.

Nuno Mendes
Amorim is eager to bring PSG left-back Mendes to Old Trafford. Mendes, who played under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon, has turned down PSG’s contract extension, making him a potential summer target. With PSG likely to sell before his contract runs out in 2026, Mendes could be a great fit for Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
Viktor Gyökeres
The Swedish striker is another of Amorim’s former players at Sporting, but a January move seems unlikely. Gyökeres has a hefty £83 million release clause, but Sporting might negotiate for around £70 million. Arsenal is also keeping an eye on the talented forward, which could spark a bidding war in the summer.
Manchester United is trying to balance their financial struggles with the need to strengthen their squad this month. With Ruben Amorim eager to make his mark at Old Trafford, January could bring a mix of exits and arrivals that shape United’s future.
