Kane’s brace brought his goal tally to 68 in 100 games, making him England’s all-time leading scorer by a good margin. He matched Wayne Rooney’s previous record of 53 goals with a penalty in the 2022 World Cup quarter-final against France. Even though he missed a second penalty in that match, Kane eventually broke the record in March 2023 during a Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy.
Kane is currently tied for 27th on the all-time list of men’s international goalscorers, alongside legends like Gerd Müller, Robbie Keane, and Carlos Ruiz. Just three more goals will see him break into the top 20!
The striker has netted five hat-tricks for England, with his first coming at the 2018 World Cup against Panama. He also scored trebles against Bulgaria and Montenegro during Euro 2020 qualifiers and followed up a hat-trick against Albania in World Cup qualifying with a four-goal performance against San Marino just days later.
Kane has scored twice in a match on seven occasions, including in his 100th appearance, joining Wayne Rooney and Sir Bobby Charlton as the only men to score on their centennial cap. Notably, Kane is the only one of the trio to score twice in such a match.
A third of Kane’s international goals—22 in total—have come from penalties. His longest scoring streak is six games, a feat he has achieved three times, while his longest goalless stretch is seven matches.
Under Kane’s leadership and Gareth Southgate’s management, England has come closer to major tournament success than at any time since their 1966 World Cup victory. Kane won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup, scoring six goals as England reached the semi-finals, only to lose in extra time to Croatia.
Kane also helped lead England to consecutive European Championship finals. At Euro 2020, Kane’s four goals helped England to the final, where they lost to Italy on penalties. In the most recent Euros, England narrowly lost 2-1 to Spain in the final, with Kane scoring three goals and tying with five others for the Golden Boot.
Kane is now England’s top scorer in major tournaments with 15 goals. He shares the record for most goals in the European Championship with Alan Shearer (7), while his eight World Cup goals trail only Gary Lineker’s 10 for England. Kane has also netted 17 goals in World Cup qualifying, 23 in Euro qualifiers, five in the Nations League, and eight in friendlies.
Kane is the 10th player in England history to reach 100 caps, joining what he described as “some of our greatest ever players.” The most-capped Englishman remains Peter Shilton, who earned 125 caps, followed by Rooney with 120.
