Sporting CP pulled off an amazing 4-1 victory over Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League, handing the Premier League champs their third loss in a row! Rúben Amorim sent a clear message to Red Devils fans, keeping his unbeaten Champions League record intact. The Portuguese side showed why they’re one of Europe’s rising stars.
City looked strong at first, with Phil Foden scoring within four minutes after intercepting a pass from Hidemasa Morita and firing a low shot past Franco Israel. But Sporting quickly regrouped, and Viktor Gyökeres became a real headache for City’s defense. After a shaky start with a lob that went straight to Ederson, Gyökeres turned the game around.
Haaland had a few chances but missed narrowly, including a side-footed volley saved by Israel and a header that Gyökeres heroically cleared off the line. But it was Gyökeres who struck before halftime, shaking off his marker to smash a bouncing shot past Ederson, leveling the match and sparking Sporting’s comeback.

The second half kicked off with a bang as Pedro Gonçalves sliced through City’s defense to set up Maximiliano Araújo, who fired through Ederson’s legs to put Sporting ahead. City’s woes worsened when Joško Gvardiol gave away a penalty that Gyökeres confidently converted.
City had a chance to bounce back with a penalty after Ousmane Diomande’s handball, but Haaland’s shot hit the crossbar. Gyökeres then stepped up again from the spot after Geny Catamo was fouled, sealing his hat-trick and an unforgettable win for Sporting.
Amorim’s Sporting is off to a fantastic start, winning 13 of 14 games in league and European play. City’s usually solid form took a hit as they conceded four in a Champions League match for the first time since 2016, ending their long unbeaten away run in the competition.
