Manchester United put on a solid and professional show, snagging a 2-0 win over FCSB in Bucharest and booking their spot in the Europa League knockout rounds. Goals from Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo helped Erik ten Hag’s squad head back to Manchester with all three points and a nice confidence boost for their next domestic match.

First Half: A Slow Start

The match kicked off with both teams feeling each other out, as FCSB tried to find any gaps in United’s defense. The home team, cheered on by a lively Romanian crowd, started strong, testing André Onana with an early long-range shot that he handled easily.

United had a tough time creating clear chances in the first half-hour, with Rasmus Højlund coming closest, but his shot from close range got blocked by an FCSB defender. The visitors had the ball but lacked urgency in the final third, letting the hosts stay compact and frustrate their attacks.

Second Half: United Turn It Up

Ten Hag made some smart changes at halftime, bringing in Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho to add some speed and unpredictability to the attack. The tweaks worked like a charm, as United started to dominate possession with more energy and purpose.

The breakthrough came in the 59th minute when Diogo Dalot jumped on a loose ball in the penalty area after a great cross from 19-year-old Kobbie Mainoo. The Portuguese full-back kept his cool, slotting the ball past the FCSB keeper to put United in the lead.

Feeling pumped from the goal, United kept pushing, and in the 68th minute, Mainoo switched from provider to scorer. Garnacho zoomed down the left before cutting it back to the young midfielder, who fired his shot into the bottom corner, doubling United’s lead and pretty much sealing the deal.

FCSB’s Response and United’s Control

FCSB tried to fight back, pushing more players forward to find a way back into the game. But United’s defense, led by Lisandro Martínez and Raphael Varane, held strong, shutting down any threats from the Romanian side.

Onana had a quiet time in the final stages, as United expertly managed the game with solid possession and disciplined defending. A late chance for Bruno Fernandes could’ve made it 3-0, but his curling shot was well saved.
