The Reds extended their unbeaten run in the UCL with a solid 2-0 victory over Bologna, adding to their winning momentum under manager Arne Slot. It was another professional performance from the lads, who have now won eight out of nine matches since Slot took the reins. Facing Bologna, a side making their debut in Europe’s elite competition, Liverpool took control from the get-go, but it was the Italian visitors who threatened first when Thijs Dallinga beat the offside trap to slot the ball past Alisson. Luckily, his goal was ruled out for offside, giving Liverpool an early scare.

Taking heed of the warning, Liverpool responded in style. Mohamed Salah, as always the creative spark for the Reds, delivered a delightful cross to the back post where Alexis Mac Allister arrived to tap in and give the home side the lead. Liverpool looked poised to extend their advantage before the break, but Darwin Núñez saw his effort disallowed for offside, and Bologna began to grow into the game. The Rossoblù finished the first half strongly, with Riccardo Orsolini’s header almost setting up a tap-in before Dan Ndoye rattled the woodwork.

After the break, Bologna continued to test Liverpool’s resolve, with Orsolini’s free-kick forcing a save from Alisson. However, they just couldn’t find a way through, and their captain, Remo Freuler, nearly headed into his own net from a Liverpool corner.

Slot, sensing his side had lost some of their first-half intensity, brought on Cody Gakpo and Kostas Tsimikas to inject fresh energy into the team. The changes paid off almost immediately, as Salah cut inside from the right, curling a trademark effort into the far corner to make it 2-0.

With the second goal, Liverpool took control of the match, comfortably seeing out the final quarter-hour as Bologna’s challenge faded. The Reds’ defense held strong, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté keeping Bologna’s attacks at bay. The win means Liverpool have made a strong start in the UCL group stage, while Bologna remain winless, learning some tough lessons in their debut European campaign.

Liverpool’s next UCL fixture promises to be another challenge, but Slot’s side is in a rich vein of form, bolstered by their solid performances in both the Premier League and Europe. Meanwhile, Bologna’s European adventure continues with another tricky trip to England as they prepare to face Aston Villa in their next group match.

Will Liverpool’s dominance in Europe continue as they look to secure their place in the knockout stages?
