Liverpool Edge Lille to Extend UCL Home Streak

Liverpool battles past Lille in an exciting match to grab another Champions League win and keep their perfect group-stage run alive.

Liverpool showed their strength again at Anfield, fighting off a lively Lille team to grab a 2-1 win. This victory marked their 11th straight home win in the UEFA Champions League, proving they’re a force to be reckoned with on their turf.

The match kicked off with Lille making an early push, as Gabriel Gudmundsson charged forward but missed the target. Liverpool quickly answered back, with Mohamed Salah testing Lucas Chevalier from a distance. Both teams had their moments, but the first half was a bit messy in the final third. After the break, the Reds kept pushing. Salah missed a close chance, and Jarell Quansah couldn’t take advantage of a Tsimikas free-kick. Lille’s chances took a hit when Aïssa Mandi got a second yellow card for bringing down Díaz, leaving them a man short.

Out of nowhere, Lille struck back. Gudmundsson’s shot was blocked, but Jonathan David was quick to score from the rebound, marking his fifth goal in the UCL. However, the tie didn’t last long. Just five minutes later, Liverpool regained the lead with a deflected shot from Harvey Elliott that left Chevalier helpless.

The Reds controlled the final minutes, stopping Lille from finding another equalizer. Alexis Mac Allister made a key play to deflect Haraldsson’s late shot over the bar. Even though Darwin Núñez had a goal ruled out for offside, Liverpool held on to secure the win and keep their perfect group-stage record intact.

This win puts Liverpool at the top of their group with a game to spare, while Lille’s impressive 21-match unbeaten streak across all competitions came to a sudden end.
