Tottenham Hotspur finally broke their rough seven-game winless streak at home in the Premier League with a gritty 1-0 win over Manchester United. This means the Red Devils have now lost to the same team three times in a single season for the first time since 2012/13.
Once used to fighting for European spots, these two teams met in an unusual spot, stuck in the bottom half of the table. Spurs have had a tough season with injuries, but the return of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario brought some much-needed stability. He was busy early on, stopping both Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho in quick succession, and Ben Davies heroically cleared Diogo Dalot’s follow-up shot off the line. That moment was key as Spurs took advantage soon after—André Onana could only deflect Lucas Bergvall’s shot into the path of James Maddison, who happily tapped in his first goal in 11 Premier League games against United.
United pushed for an equalizer, with Joshua Zirkzee just missing the target and Garnacho wasting a great chance in the box, extending his goal drought back to November. Tottenham had their chances too. Youngster Mathys Tel, making his Premier League debut, couldn’t quite get Son Heung-min’s cut-back past Onana as the first half ended with Spurs on top.

The second half picked up right where the first left off—fast and wide open. Tel came close again, this time shooting wide after some great work from Djed Spence. But United had their best moments after that, with Garnacho testing Vicario twice, forcing him into a smart save at his near post. However, with injuries and a young bench, Ruben Amorim had limited options, and missing Amad Diallo was a big blow.
A late header from Zirkzee just missed the far post, which was United’s last real chance to grab a point. Onana had to be sharp to stop Dejan Kulusevski from close range at the other end, but it was too little, too late. Another tough day for United saw them drop to a worrying 15th in the table, while Tottenham climbed to 12th, celebrating back-to-back league wins after a rough seven-game stretch.
Both clubs are still struggling, but for Spurs, this was a much-needed step in the right direction.
