Tottenham Hotspur produced a dominant performance to dispatch West Ham United 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, bouncing back in emphatic fashion after their disappointing 3-2 loss to Brighton. Spurs came into the match with a point to prove, and although West Ham initially took the lead, Tottenham’s quality shone through in a commanding display.

The match started evenly, with both teams creating chances. Brennan Johnson nearly opened the scoring for Spurs, narrowly volleying wide, while Mohamed Kudus forced an excellent save from Guglielmo Vicario at the other end. Kudus, however, got his goal in the 18th minute, bundling home Jarrod Bowen’s cross to give West Ham the advantage.

Spurs, unfazed by the early setback, immediately went in search of an equaliser. Johnson missed a golden opportunity from close range, and Pedro Porro’s deflected effort was parried away by Alphonse Areola. Tottenham finally got their reward when Dejan Kulusevski’s low drive from the edge of the box found the back of the net, despite Areola’s best efforts.

Just before the break, Spurs nearly took the lead when Porro’s acrobatic volley sailed just over the bar. At halftime, manager Ange Postecoglou made a significant tactical change, replacing playmaker James Maddison with the industrious Pape Matar Sarr. The switch paid off, as Spurs looked more composed and dominant in the second half.

Tottenham struck twice in the opening 10 minutes of the restart. Yves Bissouma coolly side-footed Destiny Udogie’s pass into the net for his second Spurs goal, giving them the lead. Moments later, Jean-Clair Todibo accidentally turned the ball into his own net after Son Heung-min’s shot was saved by Areola.

Son, who had been relatively quiet, soon made his mark with a stunning solo goal. Released by Sarr, the Spurs captain drove into the penalty area, cut inside onto his left foot, and blasted a powerful shot past Areola to make it 4-1. He almost added a second moments later, but the post denied him.

West Ham’s frustrations boiled over late in the game, as Mohamed Kudus was sent off for pushing both Micky van de Ven and Pape Matar Sarr. Spurs comfortably saw out the match, and although there were no more goals, the result was a statement of intent from Postecoglou’s side.

This victory helps Spurs move on from their Brighton setback, maintaining their strong start to the Premier League season. West Ham, on the other hand, continue to struggle for consistency under new management, with defensive frailties leaving them vulnerable. David Moyes’ absence looms large as West Ham have now conceded 15 goals in eight games, securing only two wins so far this campaign.
