Is Salah Set for the Greatest Individual PL Season?

With 25 goals, 16 assists, and tons of records in sight, the Liverpool star is rewriting history! But can he smash every barrier and secure his spot as the PL's top?
Mohamed Salah

Liverpool is soaring at the top of the Premier League table, and Mohamed Salah is right at the center of it all. The Reds are 11 points ahead of Arsenal, chasing their 20th league title, and Salah’s form has been nothing short of amazing. With another goal and assist in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Manchester City, people are buzzing about whether he’s on track for the greatest individual season in Premier League history.

Chasing History: Goals Galore

Salah knows a thing or two about the Golden Boot, having snagged it three times — outright in 2017-18 and shared in 2018-19 and 2021-22. His personal best is 32 goals in a season, but that record is definitely in jeopardy. With 25 goals in 27 games this season, Salah is leading the race for the league’s top scorer, ahead of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

Haaland’s record of 36 goals in a single Premier League season, set two years ago, is the goal. But Salah’s consistency and finishing skills suggest he could break that record.

More Than Just Goals

What makes Salah stand out this season is his all-around game. He’s not just scoring — he’s creating too! With 16 assists, he’s way ahead in the Premier League’s assist charts and also leads Europe’s top five leagues, outpacing Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.

Salah is closing in on the Premier League’s single-season assists record of 20, held by Thierry Henry (2002-03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019-20). When you add up goals and assists, Salah has 41 contributions — getting closer to the 47 mark shared by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole during the 42-game seasons of the 1990s. For the modern 38-game format, Haaland’s record of 44 is the target.

Amongst the Greats

On the all-time Premier League goal charts, Salah now has 182 goals. He’s quickly approaching Sergio Aguero (184) and Andrew Cole (187). Alan Shearer’s record of 260 might still be a bit far off, but Salah’s consistency is solidifying his place among the league’s all-time greats.

Globally, Salah’s form is just as impressive. He’s leading the goal contributions race across Europe’s big five leagues, alongside Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski, and Mateo Retegui.

The Ballon d’Or Dream

Salah’s incredible season has sparked talks about his Ballon d’Or chances. The only African to win the award was George Weah in 1995, but Salah’s current form puts him right in the mix. Former Liverpool stars like Jamie Carragher and Daniel Sturridge have been vocal about Salah’s standing, with Carragher even comparing this season to the legendary ones by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

What Next?

Salah’s contract situation adds another layer of excitement. With his current deal ending this summer, Liverpool fans are on edge about whether their star will stick around or look for a new adventure.

As Salah keeps breaking records and pushing limits, the big question is: can he pull off the greatest individual season in Premier League history?
