Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy wrapped up his time at Manchester United on a high note, leading his squad to a convincing 3-0 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford. This win not only made for a memorable farewell but also stretched United’s unbeaten streak against newly-promoted teams to 19 matches.
The Red Devils took a little while to find their groove, but they hit their stride on 17 minutes when Bruno Fernandes seized his moment. He latched onto Amad Diallo’s clever backheel and curled a stunning shot into the bottom corner, celebrating his 250th appearance for United in style. That goal marked Fernandes’ ninth contribution in eight starts against Leicester, showing just how much he loves playing against the Foxes. Leicester tried to respond, but Wilfred Ndidi’s weak effort didn’t trouble André Onana at all.
The visitors’ luck didn’t improve as United doubled their lead before halftime in a rather unfortunate way. A whipped cross from Noussair Mazraoui found Fernandes, who, despite a little mix-up with his header, redirected the ball off his leg and into Leicester’s Victor Kristiansen, who accidentally put it into his own net. Just before the break, Amad almost added a third with a skillful run, but his shot was too close to Mads Hermansen.

In the second half, United focused on keeping their lead, letting Leicester push forward. Jordan Ayew, fresh off scoring in his last two away games, came closest for Leicester but could only find the side netting. Without Jamie Vardy, the Foxes just didn’t have that cutting edge to break down United’s defense. United stayed dangerous on the counter, and Alejandro Garnacho sealed the victory with a superb top-corner finish, thanks to Fernandes’ perfectly timed pass.
With this win, United’s dominance over Leicester continues, having lost just twice in their last 18 Premier League encounters. The Foxes have a rough record at Old Trafford, with only one win in 15 league visits, and they missed a chance to leapfrog United in the standings.
