Red Devils Held by Resilient Eagles in Frustrating Stalemate

Manchester United had all the possession but ended up frustrated in a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace, stretching their winless run at Selhurst Park to five matches.

Well, what a match that was! After a couple of wins post-international break, Erik ten Hag’s lads were back at the scene of last season’s struggles, hoping for a better outcome against a Palace side that’s been having a tough time this season. United looked in control during the first half, with their best chance coming early on when Joshua Zirkzee set up Alejandro Garnacho, only for former United keeper Dean Henderson to pull off a stunning save. Just moments later, Henderson was at it again, denying Matthijs de Ligt’s close-range header with a brilliant reaction save using his feet.

United pushed hard for a goal before halftime, but Henderson was on fire, stopping Garnacho’s shot after a clever flick from Bruno Fernandes. Despite United’s dominance, Palace remained a threat on the counter, especially through Eberechi Eze, who tested André Onana with a weak effort just before the break.

Not happy with the first half, Palace manager Oliver Glasner made two changes at halftime, bringing on Ismaïla Sarr and Jefferson Lerma. The subs made an instant impact, with Sarr setting up Eze for a blocked shot, giving Palace a glimmer of hope. But United quickly took charge again, with Fernandes coming close from the edge of the box, though his shot curled just wide.

In a bid to shake things up, Ten Hag brought on Marcus Rashford, hoping his recent goal-scoring form could break the deadlock. Despite United’s attacking flair, Palace nearly snatched the lead when Onana pulled off a brilliant double save, first denying Eddie Nketiah and then reacting quickly to stop Sarr’s rebound. Eze had another chance, set up by Sarr, but it just wasn’t their day.

Things got a bit spicy late in the game when Lisandro Martínez got a yellow for a tough tackle on Daichi Kamada, with Palace feeling it should’ve been a red. In the end, neither team could find that elusive goal, with Palace earning their third draw of the season. United, on the other hand, were left kicking themselves for missed chances, as their lack of clinical finishing once again proved costly in what should’ve been a winning performance.
