Marcus Rashford just dropped a huge hint about his future at Manchester United, saying he’s up for a “new challenge” after being left out of the squad for Sunday’s thrilling derby win over Manchester City. The 27-year-old forward, who’s been with the club since he was seven, might be on the chopping block as new boss Ruben Amorim shakes things up.
Rashford’s absence from the Manchester derby raised some eyebrows, and Amorim later explained it was due to “training, performance, and engagement.” He and Alejandro Garnacho were left out because of concerns about their attitude, showing that the Portuguese manager means business.
Things got a bit wild on Monday when Rashford showed up at United’s Carrington training ground but was sent home after being checked for a high temperature. Just a day later, he made headlines again while visiting his old primary school to hand out Christmas gifts. There, he told journalist Henry Winter that he’s ready to leave Old Trafford.
“For me, personally, I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford shared. “When I leave, it’s going to be with no hard feelings. You won’t hear any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s just not me. I’ll always be a Red.”

Rashford’s comments are the clearest sign yet that his time at United might be winding down. Even though he signed a big £315,000-per-week contract last year, his performances have dipped over the last 18 months. He hasn’t played for England since the 2022 World Cup and is struggling to find the form that made him a star for both club and country.
It’s believed United would consider offers around £40 million for the academy grad, but it’s unclear if any club will meet Rashford’s wage demands. His exit could be crucial as Amorim looks to assert his authority in the dressing room.
Amorim was clear about Rashford’s exclusion, saying, “(It was) selection. We evaluate everything—training, performance, engagement with teammates, and pushing the team forward. It was my decision. Simple.”
For now, Rashford’s future is up in the air with the January transfer window coming up fast. While he insists he’ll leave on good terms, his admission hints at the end of an era for one of Manchester United’s most beloved homegrown stars.
