Marmoush’s Hat-Trick Produces City 4-0 Newcastle Thrashing

Omar Marmoush scored a brilliant first-half hat-trick as Manchester City cruised to a 4-0 win over Newcastle, extending their home winning streak to 16.

Omar Marmoush’s night to remember saw him score a first-half hat-trick as Manchester City swept aside Newcastle United 4-0 in the Premier League. The win stretched City’s dazzling home streak to 16 successive victories, a pointer towards their superiority on their own turf.

Coming into the game following a midweek dispiriting loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League, Pep Guardiola’s side was eager to get back on track. Right from the kick-off, it was clear that City was set to make a point. Their high-intensity tempo and rapid passing further harassed Newcastle and the breakthrough came in the 19th minute.

Ederson, looking to make amends for his unusual mistake in the Madrid game, played a quick long ball down the field. Marmoush, making his first Premier League appearance for City, showed immense composure as he outran the Newcastle defense. As Martin Dúbravka rushed off his line in chase, the Egyptian forward played a beautiful lob over the head of the keeper, netting his first goal for City.

The hosts wasted no time in piling on the pressure. Five minutes on, City doubled the lead. İlkay Gündoğan, playing deep in City midfield, played a subtle through-ball to Marmoush, who was stationed outside the box. With a calm and clinical finish, Marmoush dispatched the ball beyond Dúbravka, sending the stadium into a state of delirium and leaving the Magpies with very little space to catch their breath.

Newcastle, who had been in tremendous form with six consecutive away wins, could not make any kind of impression in the first half. Their forwards were sloppy, and City just continued doing things as they always do. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 40th minute. Savinho, with his great vision, found a pinpoint cross into the box, and Marmoush was there to power in a first-time shot from the bottom corner. The hat-trick was complete and City were playing very well towards securing all three points.

When the second half resumed, Newcastle tried to regroup and reenter the game. City’s defense was solid, though, and Ederson was required to come to the rescue several times. The Brazilian keeper made crucial interventions, including a parry of a menacing long-range shot from Lewis Miley. The visitors were unable to, however, breach City’s defense, their attack not being of the required quality to make them a credible threat.

City continued to dominate the match, and six minutes into injury time, they had their fourth. Substitute James McAtee, having only been on the pitch for little more than a few minutes, was in the correct place at the correct time to seize on a flicked header from Erling Haaland. McAtee volleyed the ball into the net with precision, rounding off a perfect afternoon for Guardiola’s team.

The victory not only sealed City’s return to winning ways following their Champions League defeat but also their first clean sheet in seven matches. With this crushing victory, they moved up to 4th place in the Premier League table, still in contention for their title hopes. Newcastle, on the other hand, had another challenging result, recording their third defeat in four league games. Their hopes of finishing in the top four and earning Champions League qualification are rapidly fading away, as they continue to fall behind in the race for European spots.
