Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League woes at home continued as Newcastle United handed them a 2-1 defeat, stretching their winless streak to six games and cranking up the pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou.

With injuries and illness taking a toll, Spurs faced a tough challenge against a revitalized Newcastle side. But it was Tottenham who struck first, much to the delight of their fans. Pedro Porro delivered a beautiful cross that Dominic Solanke met with a stunning diving header, putting the hosts ahead in just the fourth minute.

However, Tottenham’s lead didn’t last long. Just six minutes later, Anthony Gordon equalized for Newcastle with a powerful strike from a tight angle, marking a rough start for Spurs goalkeeper Brandon Austin on his Premier League debut. While VAR checked for a potential handball by Joelinton, the goal stood, leveling the game.

Newcastle took advantage of Spurs’ weakness down the left flank again, with Gordon coming close to a second, forcing Austin into a sharp save. The visitors completed the turnaround before halftime as Alexander Isak, in fantastic form, guided Jacob Murphy’s deflected cross into the net. This marked Isak’s seventh consecutive Premier League match with a goal, solidifying his importance to Eddie Howe’s squad.

The second half saw Spurs show more fight. Brennan Johnson was just inches away from equalizing when his rebound hit the post after Martin Dúbravka denied Pape Matar Sarr with a quick save. James Maddison also threatened with a curling effort that narrowly missed the target.

As the clock ticked down, Tottenham ramped up their efforts, with Johnson and Sergio Reguilón sending dangerous shots across the face of goal. But their comeback attempt fell short, leaving Spurs stuck in 11th place with just one win from their last eight league matches.

For Newcastle, this victory boosted their push for a top-four finish, marking their fifth consecutive Premier League win. The Magpies now sit level on points with Chelsea, separated only by goal difference as the Blues gear up for their clash with Crystal Palace.
