After a stylish 2-0 win over Chelsea to wrap up 2024 at Portman Road, Ipswich Town was aiming for back-to-back home Premier League wins for the first time since January 2002. Unfortunately, the Tractor Boys fell short on Thursday, losing 2-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion, which only added to their relegation worries.
To spice up their attack, Ipswich made a big January signing, bringing in winger Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa. Manager Kieran McKenna is hoping this addition will give them the boost they need, especially since they’ve struggled to score in three of their last five Premier League games, making them the third-lowest scorers in the league with just 20 goals.
Things haven’t been smooth sailing for Manchester City either. They were up 2-0 at Brentford on Tuesday, but two late goals meant they had to settle for a 2-2 draw. This result continued their road struggles, with only one win in their last seven Premier League away matches. Their title hopes might be slipping, but Pep Guardiola’s squad is still eager to close the gap on the top four.
City can take heart from their strong record against newly-promoted teams, having won 20 of their last 21 Premier League matches against them. A win here would mark their third league double over Ipswich and keep them in the Champions League race.
