Rasmus Højlund is feeling confident about leading Manchester United’s attack under new manager Ruben Amorim, especially after scoring a fantastic brace in the 3-2 Europa League win over Bodø/Glimt at Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old Danish striker, who doubled his goal tally for the season in Amorim’s first home game, thinks the new tactics fit his style perfectly.

Højlund, who played in a 3-4-3 system at Atalanta before joining United, shared how the new setup is really bringing out the best in him:

“I think the new system and ideas suit my style. I’m still doing my thing, but the football is different now. I’ve played this way before, and it fits me well.”

Taking on the No.9 shirt at United shows Højlund’s growing ambition and readiness to take on more responsibility. Even at a young age, he’s eager to step up his game:

“I want to take the next step, and that’s why I took the No.9 shirt. I showed last season I can score goals, but I’m still young and have a lot to learn. I’m getting better every day, especially with my hold-up play and back-to-goal movements. These things come with experience.”

Amorim started Marcus Rashford as the central striker in his debut match against Ipswich Town, which ended in a 1-1 draw. But Højlund got the chance to start against Bodø/Glimt and really shined.

Looking back on his growth, Højlund stressed the importance of focusing on improvement rather than setting specific goal targets:

“Last season, I had to learn the Premier League and adapt. Now, I’m all about getting better every day and scoring as many goals as I can when I play.”

With 16 goals last season and now finding his groove in Amorim’s system, Højlund’s role as United’s main striker is set to grow as he takes on the challenge of leading the line for the Red Devils.
