Pep Guardiola Extends Man City Contract Until 2026

Guardiola Commits to Manchester City Until 2026! Pep is sticking around at Man City – but what happens if they face relegation because of those 115 charges?

Pep Guardiola has signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester City, keeping him with the Premier League champs until the summer of 2026. This decision comes during a bit of a rough patch for the club, which is dealing with an unusual dip in form and some ongoing legal issues.

Guardiola, who joined City in 2016, is already the most successful manager in the club’s history. Under his watch, City has snagged six Premier League titles, including an amazing four in a row, plus their first-ever Champions League trophy in 2023.

Extending his stay wasn’t an easy choice. After City’s FA Cup final loss to Manchester United in May, Guardiola took the summer to think about his future. Usually, his contract extensions have lined up with trips to Abu Dhabi, home of the club’s owner Sheikh Mansour. But before City’s recent loss to Brighton, Guardiola shot down rumors of another trip, saying, “No. I said many times, I won’t talk about it [a new contract]. When it happens, it will happen.”

City’s struggles this season have been tough, including an unusual four-match losing streak, leaving them five points behind league leaders Liverpool. The club is also fighting over 100 charges of alleged financial misconduct from the Premier League. While City denies all allegations, the threat of serious penalties, including relegation, is hanging over them.

Even with all this uncertainty, Guardiola’s contract extension doesn’t have a break clause that would let him leave if the club loses its Premier League status. He’s made it clear he’s committed to the club no matter what, saying, “I will not consider my future [if] it depends on being here [Premier League] or being in League One.”

Guardiola’s continued presence also shows confidence in the club’s long-term vision, even as director of football Txiki Begiristain, a close ally, gets ready to step down at the end of the season. Sporting Lisbon’s Hugo Viana is expected to take over the role.

On the pitch, Guardiola is focused on turning City’s fortunes around. Ahead of this weekend’s match with Tottenham, he acknowledged the tough road ahead, saying, “It will be a tough season—we knew that from the start. But this is what it is. I like it, I love it, I want to face it and lift my players and try it.”

With his contract now secure, Guardiola is all in on guiding Manchester City through these challenges, aiming to further cement the club’s legacy in English and European football.
