Manchester United fought back from a two-goal deficit to grab a thrilling 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park, keeping the Toffees’ unbeaten streak alive at six Premier League matches under David Moyes.
Everton came into the game buzzing with confidence, and it showed right from the start. The hosts put relentless pressure on United’s defense, with Beto getting the first chance, but his header was easily saved by André Onana. United had a few promising moments with some dangerous crosses, but Everton’s high press eventually broke the deadlock. A corner kick created chaos in the United box, and Abdoulaye Doucouré’s header set up Beto perfectly, who volleyed it into the roof of the net, leaving Onana with no chance.
Riding high from the opener, Everton doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark. Beto turned into a playmaker, sending in a low cross that Jack Harrison connected with, forcing a great save from Onana. Unfortunately for United, the rebound fell right to Doucouré, who nodded it home from close range. The Red Devils struggled to respond before halftime and were lucky not to be further behind when Noussair Mazraoui made a crucial sliding clearance to deny Beto a second goal.

United looked a bit more settled after the break but still didn’t create much. Onana was the busier keeper, making a sharp save to keep out Doucouré’s volley. But then, the game took a wild turn in the final 20 minutes. Alejandro Garnacho won a free-kick on the edge of Everton’s box, and Bruno Fernandes stepped up to curl the ball past Jordan Pickford, wrong-footing the England keeper and sparking hope for the visitors.
Just 10 minutes later, the equalizer came when another Everton set-piece clearance fell to Manuel Ugarte, who unleashed a thunderous volley from the edge of the area, stunning the Goodison crowd. With the momentum on United’s side, the closing stages got chaotic. Pickford made a world-class save to tip Fernandes’ powerful strike over the bar, denying the visitors what would have been a sensational comeback win.
But the drama didn’t end there. Deep into stoppage time, Everton thought they had a penalty when Ashley Young went down after a challenge from Matthijs de Ligt. However, VAR stepped in, overturning the decision and leaving the home side frustrated at full-time.
While Everton will be bummed not to have held on for all three points, their upward trend under Moyes is still going strong. As for United, Ruben Amorim can take comfort in his team’s fighting spirit, with their late surge at Goodison showing a rare glimpse of resilience in what’s been a pretty inconsistent season.
