Elon Musk, the world’s richest guy with a jaw-dropping net worth of £340 billion, is reportedly eyeing a massive takeover of Liverpool Football Club. His dad, Errol Musk, hinted that Elon’s connections to Merseyside and his love for the Reds might be fueling his desire to invest in the Premier League leaders.
In a chat with Times Radio, Errol shared some insights about his son’s plans. When asked if Elon wanted to buy Liverpool, Errol playfully dodged, saying, “I can’t comment on that—they’ll raise the price!” But he did confirm Elon’s interest, adding, “He would like to, yes, obviously. Who wouldn’t?”
Elon’s family history seems to deepen his bond with Liverpool. “His grandmother was born in Liverpool,” Errol revealed. “We have relatives there, and we were lucky to know quite a few of the Beatles since they grew up with some of my family. So, we’re pretty attached to Liverpool, you know?”
This fun tidbit has fans buzzing, especially since Liverpool is such a big name in global football. The club is currently owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and ranks fourth on Forbes’ list of the world’s most valuable football teams.
FSG has led Liverpool through a major transformation since taking over in 2010, after a rocky time under George Gillett and Tom Hicks. Thanks to FSG, Liverpool has enjoyed huge success, including a Premier League title and a Champions League win.

In September 2023, FSG sold a minority stake to US investment firm Dynasty Equity to ease financial strains from the COVID-19 pandemic, Anfield’s redevelopment, and buying back the Melwood training facility. Even with these changes, a full takeover by someone like Musk would be a game-changer for the club.
Interestingly, even with his massive wealth, Elon Musk wouldn’t be the richest owner in the Premier League. That title goes to the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which backs Newcastle United and has assets over £500 billion.
While Musk has made waves with ventures like Tesla, SpaceX, and X (formerly Twitter), his jump into sports ownership is still just a thought. But with Liverpool’s global appeal and room for growth, it could be a perfect match for Musk’s love of high-profile projects.
If Musk goes for a Liverpool takeover, it could bring some serious financial power to the club. We might see investments in player signings, stadium upgrades, and global branding, boosting Liverpool’s already impressive reputation.
For now, though, Musk’s interest is still just talk, and FSG is still in charge.
