In Ruben Amorim’s first match as the boss, Manchester United ended up with a frustrating 1-1 draw at Portman Road after giving up an early lead to Ipswich Town. Everyone was excited to see the new United coach, and the away fans quickly started chanting his name. United kicked things off well, with Amad Diallo zooming down the right and finding Marcus Rashford, who calmly scored to put the visitors ahead 1-0 just 14 minutes in.
But Ipswich, led by their old United coach Kieran McKenna, bounced back strong. Sammie Szmodics made United goalkeeper André Onana work early on, and even though there weren’t many chances in the first half, things changed towards the end. In the 43rd minute, Omari Hutchinson, with a little help from a deflection, curled a beautiful shot into the top corner to tie things up, marking his first Premier League goal.

After halftime, United tried to get back in front, with Alejandro Garnacho testing Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric right away. But Ipswich kept threatening, with Liam Delap’s flick saved by Onana and Jens Cajuste making a key tackle on Garnacho. Even with some good substitutions, Amorim couldn’t find the magic to get the win. Bruno Fernandes came close with a free-kick that just missed, and Conor Chaplin almost stole all three points for Ipswich at the end.
While United might be bummed about the draw, Ipswich’s effort earned them a nice point, making it three games unbeaten in the league. Even though they’re stuck in 18th place, Ipswich can feel good about their solid performance, while United, now in 12th, have a long way to go under Amorim if they want to climb the Premier League table.
