Darwin Núñez came off the bench to score two stoppage-time goals, sealing Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Brentford and stretching their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points. The Reds are now on an impressive unbeaten away streak of 11 league games, while Brentford’s winless run at home has hit five matches.
Liverpool started a bit sluggishly at the Gtech Community Stadium and almost fell behind within five minutes. Mikkel Damsgaard missed a golden chance, failing to connect with Mads Roerslev’s low cross. At the other end, Ryan Gravenberch’s long-range strike forced a sharp save from Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken, while Dominik Szoboszlai rattled the crossbar with a powerful shot.
Brentford stayed competitive, with Christian Nørgaard heading over from a Bryan Mbeumo free-kick, but neither side could find the net before halftime. Liverpool had their chances, especially Cody Gakpo’s close-range attempt, which Flekken smothered to keep the game level.

The Reds took control after the break, piling on the pressure with a flurry of corners and shots. Luis Díaz tested Flekken with a low drive before being replaced by Núñez, who almost made an immediate impact with a header that went just wide.
As the match went on, both teams traded chances. Alexis Mac Allister missed a header for Liverpool, while Alisson made two crucial saves, first from Mbeumo’s free-kick and then from a low drive. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s thunderous long-range effort narrowly missed, showing Liverpool’s growing frustration.
In the dying moments, Liverpool finally broke through. Alexander-Arnold delivered a perfect pass to Núñez, who slotted home from close range to give the Reds the lead. Just two minutes later, Harvey Elliott set up Núñez again, and the Uruguayan finished calmly to double Liverpool’s advantage.
For Brentford, it was a tough end to a determined performance. The defeat extends their rough patch, with just one win in their last nine matches. Liverpool, on the other hand, continue to show their title credentials with a hard-fought win that highlights their resilience and depth.
