Bournemouth pulled off a huge 2-0 win against 10-man Arsenal at the Vitality Stadium, snapping a five-match losing streak against them and putting a dent in the Gunners’ early-season vibe. The turning point came in the 30th minute when William Saliba got controversially sent off after a VAR review, being called the last man while fouling Bournemouth’s Evanilson.

The match kicked off a bit cautiously, with Arsenal missing the spark of the absent Bukayo Saka. Both teams struggled to create clear chances early on, but Saliba’s red card flipped the game, forcing Mikel Arteta to shake things up. Raheem Sterling was the unlucky one to make way as Arsenal tried to hold their ground against a rampaging Bournemouth.

From then on, Bournemouth took charge, with Antoine Semenyo coming close late in the first half. They kept the pressure on after halftime, but they were a bit wasteful, with Semenyo firing over from close range while unmarked. Arsenal had a brief moment of hope when Gabriel Martinelli forced a weak shot after a Kepa Arrizabalaga mistake, but that was about it.

Bournemouth finally made their dominance pay off in the 70th minute. A clever flick from substitute Justin Kluivert found Ryan Christie unmarked in the box, and he smashed the ball into the top corner. Things got worse for Arsenal ten minutes later when goalkeeper David Raya fouled Evanilson in the box, letting Kluivert step up and score the penalty, doubling Bournemouth’s lead.

The Gunners couldn’t find a way back, and the match ended in disappointment for Mikel Arteta’s crew. This was Arsenal’s first Premier League away loss of 2024, and they now face a tough match against Liverpool next weekend without their defensive rock, Saliba. Meanwhile, Bournemouth celebrated a rare win over Arsenal and climbed into the top half of the table, edging out Manchester United on goal difference.
