Chelsea put on a show, cruising past a struggling Southampton team with a solid 4-0 win at Stamford Bridge. This victory marked their 12th win in 15 matches against teams at the bottom of the table, giving a nice boost to their top-four hopes.
For Southampton, the trip to West London was a chance to shine. After a narrow 2-1 win over Ipswich Town, they had a shot at back-to-back Premier League away wins for the first time since June 2020. With Chelsea not in top form, the Saints might have felt hopeful. But that hope faded fast as Chelsea took charge right from the start.
Enzo Fernández was the mastermind behind Chelsea’s early attacks, setting up Cole Palmer twice. Unfortunately, Palmer’s first shot was a miss, and his second went straight to Aaron Ramsdale, extending his goal drought to seven matches. But Chelsea didn’t wait long to score. From a corner, Tosin Adarabioyo’s header fell perfectly for Christopher Nkunku, who scored easily to open the game.
Southampton’s response was short-lived, with Filip Jörgensen making a fantastic save to stop Paul Onuachu’s powerful header—one of their few chances. Chelsea quickly doubled their lead when Pedro Neto made a great run and fired a shot past Ramsdale.

The Blues were on fire and tightened their grip before halftime. This time, Neto turned into a playmaker, delivering a perfect set-piece for Levi Colwill, who celebrated his birthday weekend with his first goal of the season. By halftime, Southampton’s hopes were nearly gone.
After the break, Chelsea kept dominating but missed a few chances to score more. Fernández sent a lovely cross to Nkunku, but he headed it wide. Palmer continued to struggle, sending a bouncing shot over the bar, and Jadon Sancho’s clever turn set up Neto, who miscontrolled the ball in a good spot.
Despite the missed chances, Chelsea finally scored their fourth with 12 minutes left. A quick counter-attack ended with substitute Tyrique George passing to Marc Cucurella, who finished it off to cap a great performance.
There was still time for a special moment as 17-year-old Shim Mheuka made his Premier League debut, wrapping up a night full of positives for the home team. Chelsea’s win puts them back in the top four—at least for now—while Southampton stays at the bottom, with their goal difference taking another hit. After conceding nine goals in two matches against Chelsea this season, the Saints will be glad to see the back of them, but with just nine points and a 13-point gap to safety, their future in the top flight looks pretty grim.
