Brighton & Hove Albion pulled off an amazing 3-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, making history in the Premier League! This was the third home loss in a row for the Red Devils against the Seagulls—definitely a tough stat for Erik ten Hag’s team.
Fresh off a nice 2-0 win against Ipswich, Brighton brought their energy into this match and scored early. Just five minutes in, Carlos Baleba sent a perfect long ball to Kaoru Mitoma, who zoomed past United’s defense. The Japanese winger kept his cool and passed it to Yankuba Minteh, who easily slotted it in, sparking wild cheers from the away fans.
Manchester United got a chance midway through the first half when Brighton’s defense slipped up. A bad pass from goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen gave the ball to Joshua Zirkzee, who was fouled in the box by Baleba. Bruno Fernandes stepped up and calmly scored the penalty, giving Old Trafford a brief lift.

The second half kicked off with some chaos as Brighton thought they had scored again when João Pedro poked the ball in during a scramble. But VAR stepped in and ruled it out for a foul. Not giving up, the Seagulls kept pushing and got their reward on the hour mark. Mitoma, who was already giving United’s defense a hard time, turned from provider to scorer, smashing in Yankuba Minteh’s great cross to become the highest-scoring Japanese player in Premier League history.
Brighton wrapped up the game in the 76th minute, thanks to a blunder from André Onana. The United keeper fumbled a simple cross right to Georginio Rutter, who happily took advantage to secure the win for Brighton. From there, Brighton managed the game well, shutting down any hopes of a United comeback.
This result leaves Manchester United stuck in 13th place, closer to the relegation zone than the European spots. Meanwhile, Brighton’s back-to-back wins have shot them up to ninth, reigniting their hopes for European football.
