Chelsea bounced back into the Premier League’s top four with a solid 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, who still can’t get a clean sheet in London since February 2022.
From the get-go, Chelsea took control. Cole Palmer, back from injury, showed off his skills early on. He almost curled a shot into the top corner at 12 minutes and then forced a save from José Sá with a low shot. Things got tricky for Wolves when Trevoh Chalobah’s long ball caused confusion in their defense. Matt Doherty’s misdirected header almost led to disaster, but he managed to clear it just in time with Pedro Neto nearby.
But the relief didn’t last long. Neto’s corner was cleared by Jørgen Strand Larsen, but Reece James’ shot from the edge of the area deflected to Tosin Adarabioyo, who scored from close range. The goal was initially ruled offside but stood after a VAR check. Wolves found a way back before halftime when Robert Sánchez mishandled Matheus Cunha’s corner, letting Doherty score the equalizer.

Even with Wolves’ late push in the first half, Chelsea’s control was clear. They regained the lead just before the hour mark. Noni Madueke sent a perfect cross that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall flicked to Marc Cucurella, who, despite slipping, calmly slotted it past Sá. The third goal came from a set-piece, which has been a weak spot for Wolves this season. Rayan Aït-Nouri fouled Nicolas Jackson, giving Chelsea a free kick that Palmer whipped into the box. Chalobah headed it to Madueke, who scored easily.
Wolves’ coach Vítor Pereira made three substitutions to stop Chelsea’s momentum, but it was too late. They narrowly avoided more trouble when Jackson’s shot was ruled offside. Despite a late push, Chelsea wrapped up the match comfortably, moving ahead of Newcastle United and Manchester City in the standings.
While Chelsea can celebrate this hard-fought win, their shaky defense is still a worry. They’ve only managed one clean sheet in their last 12 home league games. Next Saturday, they’ll head to Manchester City for a crucial title race clash. Wolves, just above the relegation zone on goal difference, face a tough match at home against Arsenal the same day.
