Arsenal jumped to second place in the Premier League after a thrilling 2-1 comeback win against their rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, at the Emirates Stadium.
After recent cup losses to Newcastle and Manchester United, some folks were questioning Arsenal’s toughness in the race for trophies. But this match was the perfect chance to show they’re serious contenders. Spurs, on the other hand, were 16 points behind and struggling, but they still had the potential to trip up Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The Gunners started strong, taking control early on. Leandro Trossard had a shot heroically blocked by Radu Drăgușin, and debut goalkeeper Antonín Kinský barely dodged disaster when Kai Havertz intercepted a bad clearance. Spurs started to find their feet, with Dejan Kulusevski testing David Raya with a powerful shot, setting the stage for the first goal.
Out of nowhere, Tottenham captain Son Heung-min struck first. A corner bounced right to him, and his deflected shot left Raya stranded, giving Spurs a surprising lead and quieting the Emirates crowd.

But Arsenal bounced back with energy. Gabriel Magalhães soared to meet Declan Rice’s corner, and his header took a crucial deflection off Dominic Solanke to equalize. Just before halftime, Trossard’s angled shot slipped through Kinský’s hands and found the back of the net.
In the second half, Arsenal pushed for a third goal, but Havertz missed a golden opportunity from Martin Ødegaard’s pass. Declan Rice and Ødegaard also came close, slicing through Spurs’ shaky defense but couldn’t finish. Spurs struggled to respond, with Arsenal’s solid defense shutting them down.
When the final whistle blew, Arsenal secured a vital three points, cutting Liverpool’s lead at the top to four points, though the Reds have a game in hand. This win also marked Arsenal’s third straight north London derby victory—something they hadn’t done since the late 1980s. For Spurs, the loss added to their rough patch, leaving them in 13th place with just one win in nine league games.
With their confidence back and momentum on their side, the Gunners’ title chase is still alive, and their dominance over Spurs adds extra joy for Arteta’s team.
