Ruben Amorim’s Start at United Delayed by Work Permit Hold-Up
Newly appointed Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim will have to hang tight before hitting the training pitch due to a work permit delay. He was all set to kick off his role on November 11, but now his official takeover has been pushed back as he waits for the final green light to start working.
Amorim, who said goodbye to Sporting Lisbon in his last match against Braga, is excited to bring his tactical magic to Old Trafford after interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy wrapped up his stint with a fantastic 3-0 win over Leicester. Even though Amorim’s appointment is a done deal, some paperwork around his UK work visa means he can’t quite “get his feet on the grass” just yet, according to the Daily Mail.

With a bunch of United players off on international duty, Amorim’s first match as manager is lined up for November 24, when United takes on Ipswich. He’ll officially meet the media in his pre-match press conference, but he might chat with United’s club media before that. The club is using the international break to help him settle into Manchester, sorting out accommodation and all the logistics.
The Portuguese manager is bringing along five of his backroom staff, which adds an extra £4 million to the £8.3 million buyout fee paid to release him from Sporting Lisbon. As Amorim’s team gears up to take charge, Van Nistelrooy’s future at the club is still a bit up in the air. However, the Dutchman has made it clear he wants to keep supporting United in any way he can, reflecting on his short but sweet four-game stint as a “closure” and giving a shoutout to the club’s clear communication about the transition.
Van Nistelrooy said, “The most important thing is the football club. I am here to support that, and I want to continue that.”
